This project involved the review and costing of various rebuild options, preliminary high-level designs and general client discussion/interface. The detailed design phase involved upgrade of the 220kV switchyard, including the replacement of 26 220kV circuit breakers, installation of a new 220/66kV transformer, design new 220kV relay house and associated protection panels (100+).Geelong Terminal Station RebuildProject manager and lead secondary engineer for the rebuild of Geelong Terminal Station. Project involved the replacement of switchyard equipment, design of new control building and the replacement of protection systems. Responsibilities included the managing of Civil, Primary and Secondary design teams, liaising with client, construction support and general project reporting and monitoring.
Power Systems Specialist
Part of the engineering team for the following two large scale Oil Sands projects:Canadian Natural Resources Ltd Horizon Oil Sands Project – Phase 1, 2 & 3, Canada Member of the engineering team responsible for the design of an Oil Sands development capable of producing 232,000 barrels of synthetic crude oil per day. My main responsibility was the system modelling for the Extraction, Tailings and Hydrotransportation areas. Tasks involved the production of the Short-circuit and Arc-flash Analysis Report, the Protection Design Manual and the VFD Protection & Control Guideline Report. Other tasks included the production of relay settings (300+) for all transformer, feeder and motor protection. Albian Sands – Upstream Expansion Project 1, Canada This project included the development of a new mine, ore processing and bitumen extraction facilities near the existing Muskeg River mine. As part of the Crusher and Conveyer team, responsibilities included the preparation of single line diagrams, skid mounted substation layouts, and equipment datasheets. Other responsibilities included the review of contractor’s design documents for the Surge Bin and Breaker Conveyors along with responding to technical contractor queries.
Power Systems Engineer
Design Engineer involved predominantly in protection upgrades and project management of small scale projects. Key highlight projects included:SP AusNet 220kV CB Management StandardMain designer engineer responsible for the creation of a new 220kV CB Management standard for SP AusNet. The standard was required to allow for various system configurations (including breaker and a half, single and double switched bays) and allowance for both transmission line and transformer applications. As part of this project existing 500kV line standards were also modified to cater for difference in both 220 and 500kV applications (single/three pole trips and over voltage protection). Brooklyn Automatic Reactor Bypass Control Scheme (Z424)Project manager and lead design engineer for the development of a bespoke PLC based control scheme to initiate bypass of two 220kV line reactors under particular system configurations. Detail design included the design of a full duplicated control system (five cubicles located at five different substations), two control cubicles for local and remote control and review of the existing line protection settings.
