Network Engineer, mostly have been a Tier II maintainer - I have maintained and built many networks of all different types and sizes from corporate campus switched networks, to multiple off-site networks, to enterprise networks. I especially enjoy working on enterprise networks with off-site locations, and have spent a majority of my time on them. I have come to realize that it is time to expand beyond my limited router and switch world, although working with many off-sites with VRFs in a multiprotocol environment is very fun. Unfortunately, my current job doesn't offer this.I am currently focusing on two areas: firewalls and *nix (CentOS, SuSe, Red Hat). I have gained some great experience recently in firewalls, but still sorely lacking in the *nix world (we always had an admin around to maintain the Windows and Linux servers). I am also getting into the VMware world a bit too.-For Cisco and Juniper SSG firewalls (I have only been with them for two years now compared to over fifteen years on routers and switches) I recently helped to build six networks consisting of nine Cisco firewalls, and performed most of the configurations, hardening, troubleshooting, and some of the network design. I was able to help get some of the "admin" stuff configured, so I learned the basics on setting on a Radius policy server, and helped get our NOC Solarwinds going too. I even got to work on F5's.-For my *nix "education", I have pieced together some very old hardware that should be capable of running a ESXI Host, which I plan to load a CentOS Server, Red Hat Server, and Suse Linux boxes - maybe an Apache Web server as well.Yes it is an ambitious goal - but since I will be doing a lot of it from home, I can take my time and since I recently renewed my CCNA cert, I can now focus on these new areas, including expanding that cert into a security cert - or should I just go for the CCNP?
