John Foss is an award winning film producer and lifelong educator.He has produced film and documentary programs for SBS Independent and ABC TV. Other media projects have been screened on SBS, ABC, Seven Network, NITV and Foxtel. John has been passionate about films and story telling since making his first film in high school. In 1996 he produced the award winning Indigenous short film NO WAY TO FORGET written and directed by Richard J. Frankland. The film had a world premiere in May 1996 at the world famous Festival de Cannes (France) in the category of Un Certain Regard. Later that year NO WAY TO FORGET won two AFI Award's for Best Short Film and Best Sound and screened at over 20 film festivals around the world.In 1999 John produced the award winning short drama HARRY'S WAR for SBS Independent and ABC TV.In 2007 John was co-producer on STONE BROS. Australia's first Indigenous feature film. STONE BROS featured Luke Carroll and Leon Burchill in the lead roles. They were fantastic as Eddie and Charlie, two boys who just wanted (needed) to go home. Check it out, it is a very funny film.An experienced classroom teacher John enjoys working with people, learning new ideas and storytelling. In recent years he has taught VCE Media at Geelong High School. His Media students have had success with Year 12 short films screening in festivals across Geelong and Melbourne.John continues to promote screen culture and support Australian films through the organisation of festival and public screenings of iconic Australian films.Since 2010 he has occupied the position of Festival Director for the BELLS BEACH SURF FILM FESTIVAL based in Torquay.
