The IBM IX team operates in a dynamic environment primarily focused on Horizon Europe funded innovation projects, with 16 projects and almost €10m in funding won to date. I joined the team at start-up phase and have been instrumental in helping it develop and mature. The primary objectives of my position are:To address various societal, industrial, and environmental challenges for Europe, as set out by the European Commission, by furthering the state of the art for applied technology solutions.To build relationships and collaborate with external European partners (Industry, SME’s, Academia) and with internal stakeholders, to ideate new project concepts and opportunities (Leads).Ensuring projects are led to successful outcomes in collaboration with our consortia partners and to orchestrate and navigate through the operational complexities and challenges that invariably arise.Budget planning & staffing, legal & financial contracts negotiation, risk management, governance oversight with regular reporting to lab VP & director, and project pipeline strategy and execution.Technology transfer and alignment strategy to bridge (Feedback loop) project’s outputs (technology advancements and foreground IP results) back into IBM product lines

Project Lead on Horizon Europe projects - (SELIS, ICONET, CHARIOT, PLANET, Cloud-LSVA).Authored and project managed two IBM submissions to Horizon2020 proposals, which won funding of almost €1m. Deployed and directed complex business critical physical and virtual ICT infrastructure and computing services, which supported numerous IBM users and teams across different geolocations. (Virtual servers based on VMware, SAN Storage based on IBM XiV enterprise systems, management of 4 ICT server labs).IBM Ireland Innovation Award winner - Created an IP network and host inventory tool called HostMonitor. The design methodology of which was the inspiration for a global IBM asset utilisation & efficiency initiative.Continually enhanced service level factors for scalability, security, performance, and availability to keep ahead of resource demands and ensure business continuity.Designed and deployed the first all virtual server-based IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) backbone for IBM Ireland as part of a global asset utilisation initiative to monitor and inventory server deployments.Designed and deployed a custom virtual firewall solution to augment software labs servers’ security. This overcame a potentially costly and disruptive business controls issue affecting test lab operations.Designed and deployed an enterprise-wide Tivoli OS provisioning system for IBM Ireland (TPMfOSD).

UNIX, Linux, Windows, VMware, Network & Services Monitoring, LDAP, DB2 build and administration for deploying and managing shared testing infrastructure that supported IBM SVT teams across Europe and US.

Successfully conducted ICT due diligence audit of O2 Internal IT services and network infrastructure relating to major O2 outsourcing project to British Telecom.

Designed, built, and documented clustered/single-server deployments of an IBM product suite to support testing and validations efforts. Created associated infrastructure/systems related test case scenarios.

Migrated production Oracle data from old SAN storage to new cloud based storage for SaaS product. Achieved with zero data loss. Created documentation for new solution and provided to client.

Contracted to do in-depth technical investigation and assessment of bank data centres, UNIX/Windows server farms and systems administration and backup practices. Produced a comprehensive report on findings and presented recommendations to Technical Director of Capital Markets division.

Deecal was a mature startup with a high-profile customer base that developed financial transactions management software. At that time the company’s future business growth was not being supported by their ICT infrastructure, and business growth was being impacted by IT service downtime and disruptions. I undertook to successfully solve the following complex challenges as part of my diverse and technically hands-on positions in the company:Reevaluate and redesign firewall and security for in-house IT systems and hosted client services. Design architecture and production deployment for D.Cal cloud SaaS service to external data centre.Complete overhaul of IT environment (New LAN, DNS, Mail Services, Active Directory, Services Monitoring)Technical delivery & support to clients in US & Europe (RTE, Aer Lingus, Citibank, BankOne of America, UK Gov)RESULTS:Established an IT department, including new ICT infrastructure and network services. Hired and trained new IT staff. Resulted in unprecedented ICT services uptime to serve business growth.Designed and deployed cloud the company’s first cloud-based SaaS product, D.Cal. that facilitated increased business & financial growth and resulted in engagements with new and major clients.Deployed a dedicated cloud environment for the D.Cal online credit card transaction processing applications for Citibank in their Wall Street data centre.
