John G. Hunter has been active in medical leadership and hospital administration since 1996. He has extensive senior leadership experience overseeing Perioperative Services at New York Presbyterian Hospital enterprise since 2002. He is Medical Director of Perioperative Services at NYP-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital campus.Dr. Hunter is Professor of Clinical Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, and Associate Chief and Director of Clinical Operations, Department of Surgery, and Chief, Division of Plastic Surgery at NY-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. He is Attending Plastic Surgeon at NY-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Campus, and Consulting Plastic Surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery.Dr. Hunter is an internationally-recognized expert in female genital cosmetic surgery, with numerous journal articles, book chapters, and national meeting presentations on the subject. He has published on quality improvement, patient safety, surgical site infectious, healthcare disparities and COVID-19 impact in surgery. He serves on the Editorial Boards of the two highest Impact Factor plastic surgery journals, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Aesthetic Surgery Journal. Dr. Hunter is a past President of the NY Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is a member of the, by invitation, American Association of Plastic Surgeons.A NYPD Honorary Surgeon since 1994, Dr. Hunter participated in 9/11 rescue and recovery efforts, and many other NYPD activities.Dr. Hunter joined US Navy Reserve Medical Corps in 2004, and served during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Commissioned as Lieutenant Commander, he was promoted to Commander in 2007, and Honorably Discharged in 2012. Commissioned as Commander in the NYS Division of Military and Naval Affairs (DMNA) New York Naval Militia (NYNM) in 2016, Dr. Hunter was promoted to Captain and appointed Force Medical Officer 2019, serving throughout COVID-19 pandemic. CAPT Hunter also was NYNM SOUTHCOM Deputy Commander. He retired in October 2023, ending his service and military career.
