One of my earliest childhood memories is of a building-block project I attempted at age three. It was playtime at my daycare, and I was busy perfecting the wings of a flying machine I was designing from wood blocks. Unfortunately, I had not yet mastered counting. So with much determination and after significant adjustments, I sufficiently eyeballed each wing to similar lengths. I was so thrilled with my engineering feat that I posed for a photograph with my design. Subsequently this photo made it into our small-town newspaper. To this day, I treasure that picture of my lopsided creation built with four blocks on one side and five on the other. By first grade, my aptitude for math was publicly acknowledged when my teacher selected me to help correct and grade student math tests. Today, I'm still referred to as “the numbers guy". I take pride in this designation. It’s fun to consistently challenge and expand my knowledge and competencies in coding and analytical methods. Fundamental to my career successes in finance and technology has been my ability to creatively problem solve via the use of mathematics and analytics. My fascination with analytics goes beyond a normal workday. While employed at Cornerstone Advisors, I often ran Monte Carlo retirement models at the office all day and then would go home to work on my own Monte Carlo retirement modeling program I wrote in Python. Hammering on projects in various languages (Python, R, SQ, etc.) helps me to reinforce what I know, and more importantly, helps me understand what I don’t. I still have the passion for building models and solving problems like I did as a child, and now I have the skills and experience to execute on them. I am currently seeking employment in the greater Seattle area with a dynamic company that allows me to capitalize on my experience and passions.
