Founder And PresidentCorporate Links Tour 1988 - 1997The Corporate Links Tour was founded in Columbus, Ohio in 1988 as the first organized and sponsored corporate amateur team golf tour in the US. The goal of the Tour was to offer amateurs an option to the mundane and predictable after work 9-hole league play experience by creating an "inside the ropes PGA Tour event experience" with competition and events taking place over the spring, summer and fall months. The Tour aligned passionate golf enthusiast teams from various corporations in a competitive league format where each team played for a children's charity of their choice while gathering Tour Stop points to represent their Ryder or Walker Division teams in a Ryder Cup format year end tournament. The year end event included all 8 players from each team in singles matches over 18 holes at one of Central Ohio's premier private country clubs. The Tour included stops at Central Ohio's best and highest rated upscale public and private golf courses and included all golf, range and locker room access, catered reception events, Tour signage, scoring, team uniforms, sponsored prizes, awards and skill contests, professional lessons and free mobile access. The founding teams from Columbus, Ohio included Nationwide, Worthington Industries, Cellular One (now Verizon), National City Bank (now PNC), Integrate (now JLL Retail), and several others. The Tour continued to grow from 1988-1997 and experienced expansion to two other cities (Atlanta and Las Vegas) while under sponsor contract. Over the course of the 10 years of the Tour in Columbus we were able to raise in excess of $125,000 supporting over two dozen Central Ohio children-focused charities. A representative team from the Columbus Tour travelled to Las Vegas in 1988, 1989 and 1990 to compete in the Spalding National Golf Skills Competition (later growing to be the Toyota and now ADT Skills Challenge multi-tour event) bringing home the National Championship trophy to Columbus in 1990.
