Led a project to mechanically fabricate reactive materials with various Al/Ni chemistries from commercial elemental powders.- Wrote and published a paper on the results in Combustion and Flame. Characterized the reactivity, microstructure, velocity, and final chemistry of each sample.- Designed experimental setups using AutoCAD software.- Procured and implemented capital equipment using government funding.- Presented results in a poster at the Fall 2012 Materials Research Society (MRS) Conference in Boston, MAWorked with a post-doctoral fellow to mechanically fabricate and analyze varying thermite mixtures.- Researched new and innovative ways to use mechanically fabricated thermite chemistries as cheap and effective brazes.- This project has led to the development of a successful grant application to the Department of Energy for funds to develop thermite mixtures as brazes for automotive applications. A journal paper and patent for the technique are forthcoming. - Contributions to the proposal of the aforementioned grant totaling in half a million dollars awarded to the research group and a pending patent application.
