John Goddard was a successful career banker for four decades. Following an international career managing World Bank and Asian Development Bank funds in the Asia Pacific region, he was appointed Chief General Manager Group Operations of St George Bank in the early 1980’s. During his decade at St George, Goddard took one of the lead roles in its conversion and licensing application from a Building Society to a Bank, was the chief business driver in diversifying the Bank’s lending operations into Commercial and Consumer lending, and in managing a number of highly successful multi-billion dollar mergers and acquisitions for the Bank. In the 1990’s he was appointed CEO of the Australian operations of Banca Monte de Paschi de Sienna, when it was sold to Bendigo Bank. In his later career, Goddard became Chief Operating Officer of Bendigo Bank in Qld, leading the acquisition of Ipswich based First Australian Building Society, and subsequently converting it into a dominant 80 location State Wide banking business. Following his retirement in 2007, Goddard became a professional non-executive Director and corporate business consultant. He is Chairman of the prestigious Australian based international think tank, The Eidos Institute, Chairman of the Cooper Property Group, a diversified privately owned Queensland property developer with extensive investments in Shopping Centres, Commercial and Industrial Estates, Office Blocks and Accommodation & Hospitality), Chairman of South East Qld Community Telco Ltd, Director of Pine Rivers Community Finance Ltd and Trustee of the Ipswich Arts Foundation. He also has a range of strategic advisory clients including Groundworks Pty Ltd. John is a published author. Recent book includes ‘The House that Jeff Built’ (Boolarong Press, 2008) and a collaboration/editing role on Stop Not til the Goal is Reached (McCready; Wiley Publishers, 2012).
