Profile bio

About John Burnett

Sports and I have been intertwined since before I was born. When my mother was pregnant with me and when my father would hum the ESPN SportsCenter theme song without fail, I would start kicking every time. This continued into my early childhood, while most kids would watch cartoons on Saturday morning’s, I would watch that mornings SportsCenter. Even at a very young age, the constant flow of information drew me in, and it never stopped; Football in the fall, hockey in the winter, baseball in the summer. While sometimes it was hard for me to remember things in school, I would always remember statistics from games that I had watched. It was not just watching sports I had an outlet playing hockey, learning to skate before I could walk. This led to the happiest moment of my life winning a Maryland State Hockey Championship my freshman year of high school in February, followed by the worst moment with my parents’ nasty divorce 5 months later. Even going from the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, I always had sports there to pick me up when I needed them. Nowadays, I have taken a job in baseball, working for Synergy Sports Technology (now Atrium Sports) as a data analyst in their logging department before enrolling at The W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, majoring in Sports Business. Through the many accomplishments in my hockey career being named captain my senior year, to trying my hand at junior hockey after high school, to becoming a mechanic for three years after at one of the largest Ford dealerships on the east coast. When I am not in school, I still have the love for hockey even after retiring from my competitive career, playing in an adult league year-round. Playing video games constantly with my friends from back home like many people from my generation. I also dove into the world of podcasting talking about what else but sports starting in April of 2019 ranging from talking about Major League Soccer to the big stage of the National Football League. Ultimately my ambition is to vault myself into the sports world whether that be being involved in the day to day operations with a sports franchise or working for a sports talk radio station working with people with the same love for sports that I have. I am actively searching for an internship for summer 2021 with likeminded people similar to myself.
