Americorps Vista Veterans Communication Coordinator.Orange county veterans are suffering. California is home to 1.9 million veterans, it is estimated that number will grow with 3,500 new veterans annually. Orange county has the 6th largest (133,000) veteran population in the United States.Although many thousands of veterans are in need of access to services, it is estimated that over 1300 veterans are homeless in Orange County.Goal of Project: My Team along with OneOC will galvanize our partnership with Orange County Veteran organizations and service providers, to Feed, Clothe, Shelter, Heal Empower our veterans. The "OC Stand Down" aligns with the Veterans and Military Families focus area. The project will seek to build capacity for organizations that are serving veterans, increase volunteers supporting veterans and provide an effective forum for veterans to obtain anti-poverty services. Achieving this project will be done by performing activities such as community awareness and engagement, financial resources, program development, volunteer recruitment and more over the course of one year. Our goal will be to seek out new opportunities to help the community to become more aware of the Veterans plight, not only homeless veterans but veterans in transition.Veterans are looking for a hand up not just a hand out.I have been proud of those individuals and local businesses who stepped up to the plate and supported these 3 days at the Stand Down.Through grass roots efforts, we can make a difference. We can show the broken government how true hard working Americans can help OUR Veterans who did fight for us when we needed them.Now they need us.I am a veteran, and I support helping my fellow Veteran, homeless and in other areas. I will always reach out and protect their back, because really, who else will? I believe in taking care of my clients, my veterans. "I WALK THE TALK".Are you ready to help?
