Developed hardware for several I/O expansion slot cards around a base expansion slot card design using plug-in modules for specific and different functions that could be re-used in other designs to leverage volume purchasing and reduce costs and time to market. Expansion slot cards developed included; Quad RS-232 serial port expansion card, Digital input expansion cards, Relay expansion cards, Analog input expansion cards, and a Module expansion card that accepted a standard modem module, an EDGE cellular modem module, or a GPS module (all pre-certified by manufacturer to reduce development time).Developed hardware for “Event Sensor” product using PIC processor that could connect and communicate sensor data with Site Boss platforms via RS-485 differential serial interface. Developed hardware for the “Site-Boss” S570 and S571 power control, distribution and remote site monitoring unit (for wireless broadband ISP systems) by leveraging existing IXP processor design to make smaller plug in processor board. Designed hardware for 10 channel, 48VDC, 10A solid state power switch bank with voltage and current monitoring capabilities.

Project Champion for 2kW Rail-mount inverter/charger project (Volvo semi-truck OEM install).Lead team members to complete hardware development to production phase. Ensured unit compliance with safety and EMC standards, Environmental test standards required by OEM customer, and overall test requirements related to specifications. Developed control circuit hardware, prototyped and tested new circuits, created schematics, hired and supervised PCB layout contractors. Created BOM and component standards documents.

Revised Hardware for “Freedom” 1kW-3kW inverter/charger platform. Lowered the product labor cost substantially by redesigning interconnect system that was labor intense and prone to assembly errors in final assembly area. Worked with software engineers to develop firmware for the revised hardware (Motorola 68HC708).Specified and managed design of an automated qualification test system to qualify newly developed products using various off the shelf test equipment, LabTool software, and custom front end software. Worked with contract software engineers to develop system software and UI around specified requirements.
