About John Haecker
I started my career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana, teaching science and math to rural village youth. Since then, I have been privileged to have worked in over 40 countries across five continents. The foundation of my expertise is in strategy, capacity building, leadership, environmental sustainability, and performance improvement.I am energized by opportunities to identify and scale innovative and technological solutions to address environmental and sustainability challenges. A mentor once reminded me that there are very few ideas that have not been tried before. That said, innovation often comes from applying the same or variations of ideas to new challenges. Finding solutions that work often means looking at problems in new ways. With a collaborative approach, I help public- and private-sector organizations be strategic, manage change and transformations, apply pragmatic solutions, and stay grounded in their principles and values.I have worked at the nexus of organizational development and environmental sustainability throughout my career. For an NGO, for example, I helped their leadership with organizational development to support a strategic plan and implementation model around a blue economy and to ensure their work leads to lasting outcomes. I used an organizational framework for sustainability and growth to identify strengths and obstacles. Together, we formulated solutions and next steps to apply best practices and innovations for success. My approach is also about fostering good process to set the stage for exceptional outcomes. For my company, I recently helped lead several multi-million dollar proposal efforts. Working with the team, I facilitated strong collaboration, generated goodwill among the partner organizations, and established high standards of excellence for the proposal. Clear values underpinned the process and everyone on the team played an important role. When I was young, my fondest memories were about spending time with family and friends in the natural world, whether at the beach, in the woods, or in my backyard. It instilled in me an appreciation for preserving the environment for today and future generations, which is an important driver behind my work.Going forward, I see myself contributing to a future where people around the globe realize improvement in their lives in a world preserved for future generations. I am excited to keep applying my experience and knowledge to help organizations with strategic thinking around sustainability and enable individual leadership and behavior to make a difference.
