Led a $366 million agency and 4,300 employees in the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of a $19 billion, 7,000-mile state highway system; motor vehicle services; enforcement of motor carrier laws; commercial vehicle inspections; Grand Canyon National Park Airport operations; and publishing Arizona Highways magazine.Managed a strategic plan to advance and protect the transportation system.Accomplishments included:Instituting efficiencies to weather fiscal challenges. Construction or replacement of 95 bridges and addition of more than 200 miles of travel lanes. Planning for tomorrow’s transportation infrastructure via the Interstate 11 and Intermountain West corridor, South Mountain Freeway, North-South Freeway and Tucson-Phoenix passenger rail. Revenue generation through Grand Canyon State Logo Signs and public-private partnerships. Co-chair of the Transportation and Trade Corridor Alliance. Creation of the Key Commerce Corridor infrastructure plan to support Arizona’s economic competitiveness.Agreement with Mexican government for highway improvements on the Arizona-Mexico trade corridor through Nogales.Higher-security driver license/state ID, and modernization of Motor Vehicle Division technology and customer offices.Technology refurbishments to the Traffic Operations Center and pilot project with the Department of Public Safety for traffic incident management. Establishment of ADOT’s Leadership and Employee Engagement Program for training and professional development for ADOT’s employees.Leadership and consultant positions with state, regional and national committees, including the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, National Research Council Transportation Research Board, National Safety Council and Arizona-Mexico Commission.
