Developing electro-optics systems, instruments, medical devices, and catheters ( mostly optically based. The lab is well equipped with IR and visible capability to construct and manage testing of instruments. Current projects are IR research into using new detection methods of ballistic photons through flowing blood and fiber optic imaging catheters for visible medical applications. Other activity is developing presentations to gain support for new imaging techniques through blood.

Primary designer/developer of optical systems and work with other engineering consultants to integrate complex systems. Company has a well equipped testing/development lab to complete projects. Participates with companies to develop technologies and new instruments.

Cardio was started to pursue my research in using non-OCT methods to create 2D vision through flowing blood in the cardio-vascular system. The company raised 30+million dollars from private and venture groups and began sales for several FDA approved products.In 2008 the major investors sold the IP to another medical device company and Cardio-optics stopped business as usual.

After BEO was acquired the CEO, Tim Starzl, and the chairman of the board hired me to transfer a business and its technology from Sweden to Boulder. After a year I became an employee and accepted an optical research position which led to COO duties. The COO duties were mainly directing the biochemists, optical employees in product development efforts, and patent generation. I initiated a grant proposal group and successfully obtained over 10 grants for several million dollars. BioStar was among one of the first Boulder companies to participate in the SBIR programs. I left BioStar to concentrate on turning Perihelion into a full time business.

After leaving Alpha I and one optical technician built a small prototype component business. Perihelion and BEO were the largest customers. The company failed to develop other customers and offshore pricing ended the business.

I founded this company and recruited two Ball engineers as partners. The goal of BEO was to concentrate on development of commercial and industrial product development. The company was self funded and used a 3D laser based imaging ranger finder for funds to hire other engineers and consultants. The 3D program was successful for autonomous vehicles. This project led to a unique knowledge of operating laser diodes. The company was acquired by Melles Griot a large optical catalog component supplier.

Participated in a group of optical specialists that were assigned on as needed basis to current system development programs. A personal goal was to expand the group to include optical manufacturing in support of Ball's optical sensor programs.

Alpha was a startup company with the System Engineering managers from Ferson Optics after B&L closed the military system business. As a co-founder many tasks fell under my direction in addition to optical design duties.

First position after graduate school worked as Optical Design Trainee then Chief Optical Designer after three years. Completed an apprenticeship for optical component manufacturing, regularly conducted optical component, and system testing. Responsible for introducing the company to modern optical design computer programs for optical complex system designs. This new computer aided design function allowed Ferson to win system engineering contracts.
