Moved to Linbeck as a Senior Estimator in October 1998. My first project assignment was the Texas Heart Institute/Denton Cooley Building at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, and other assignments included numerous projects for SLEH and Kelsey Seybold, the M.D. Anderson Proton Therapy Center, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Houston Branch, and the BioScience Research Collaborative at Rice University. In my first few years, I made major improvements to the company’s estimate workbook tempIate, instructions to bidders and bidders list. I worked for several years on implementing Timberline software and creating a custom database using Linbeck’s cost coding system, and led in the implementation and training for On-Screen Takeoff. I became a LEED Certified Professional in 2004, and have completed the first two units of Lean Construction Institute training.

Returned to estimating, and received training for Timberline estimating software, which I used for a few months before being assigned to review change order estimates on the 611 Walker City of Houston project.

Began work with TDCJ as a Design Coordinator, reviewing construction documents for site-adapting multiple prototype prison designs for various locations in the state during the $2.5 billion prison expansion program. This was my first exposure to large, complex projects and the documents they require. I became a member of CSI and passed the CDT exam in 1995. In 1996, I was moved to Assistant Contracts Manager, and participated in overseeing the selection processes for architects, engineers and CM’s for upcoming projects, as well as contracting for those services. I also served on a task force to evaluate proposals from counties around the state competing for grant funding for Texas Juvenile Probation Commission. In early 1997, I became acting Contracts Manager and served in that position until I left that fall as the prison expansion program was winding down.

Started this company with two other partners due to change of ownership of our previous employer. I was President of the company, responsible for all estimating, accounting and office operations, beginning with manual bookkeeping and moving to a PC- based job cost and accounting system supplemented by spreadsheets for estimating. Projects included interior remodeling and buildout of office and retail spaces (specializing in medical and dental offices), various renovation projects at SHSU, and new construction of churches and a car dealership. In 1993, a change in the Worker’s Compensation insurance market caused our company to be at a competitive disadvantage in the local market, and we closed the business the following year.

Hired as Assistant Superintendent following graduation from college, converted to Estimator in second week of employment. Additional duties included preparation of construction drawings and structural design for small commercial projects. In 1980, became responsible for job cost accounting and preparation of monthly pay requests using IBM CMAS system. Projects included numerous concrete tilt-wall buildings; renovation and new construction projects for Sam Houston State University; new construction of retail, hotels, car dealerships, schools and numerous church buildings for the Church of Latter-Day Saints.
