I joined the company in preparation for a period of growth which saw a doubling of the size of the organisation, and was involved in the setup of offices in the UK, USA and a presence established in New Zealand and PNG. Over this period I migrated the accounting, project costing and payroll functions to Microsoft Business Central 365. I also streamlined month-end processes through the implementation of automated accounts payable processing software, expense management systems and time & attendance interfaces into payroll. Through an efficiency lead process I took ownership of the finance overhead budget and reduced costs through outsourcing key finance functions. Whilst I was overseeing the IT function, I managed our support provider and oversaw multiple IT infrastructure and security upgrades.

Beijing City, China

SmartTrans is an ASX listed company offering logistics optimisation software in Australia, and is in partnership with Chinese e-commerce firms providing online marketplaces for consumers to source quality Australian products. I was contracted on a short-term basis to oversee the Beijing accounting function following the departure of a local accountant. In addition to assisting with the completion of the annual audit, I also implemented process improvements to streamline the Beijing based e-commerce operations. Shortly after I was appointed Group Financial Controller. I took over responsibility for the group’s accounting and tax reporting, and restructured the monthly reporting by profit centre to be more meaningful for management. In February 2018, the company successfully merged with a private Australian company, and as a result my contract in Beijing was concluded, allowing me to relocate back to Australia.

Sino Gas was listed on the ASX in 2009 with a portfolio of unconventional gas projects in China. I joined the company after the initial exploration phase, as it was in the process of funding its two production sharing contracts through to the commencement of pilot production. I was hired to manage key components of an extensive fundraising process which resulted in the formation of a joint venture partnership with a Hong Kong listed entity. At this point I became responsible for managing relationships with Australian suppliers and key joint venture contacts; ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of financial and operational information to the ASX and ATO; ensuring compliance with local Chinese regulations; and providing support for debt and equity related processes. To achieve these objectives I motivated local staff, assisted in conflict resolution between the board and joint venture partners, and gained alignment on critical issues such as project disclosure. In addition, I developed strong relationships with key joint venture contacts and exercised cultural sensitivity and patience where required. I used my knowledge of best practice business processes and procedures and experience dealing with executive management to implement new processes and streamline existing procedures within the company.

I was responsible for managing key components of an extensive fundraising process while assisting the Managing Director with the Board and ASX reporting. The fundraising processes resulted in a US$100M farm-in transaction with MIE Holdings Limited.

In these roles I obtained an appreciation of working in a Chinese office environment and how to motivate learners from a different cultural background. I used creative and tailored approaches to different students to engage students and provide value to their learning. I also learned to work collaboratively with Chinese staff to resolve conflicts and problem solving whilst keeping in mind cultural sensitivities.

Recruited at graduate level into a newly established practice specialising in IT business risk. During my time with the practice, the team grew from 15 to 80 advisors through aggressive recruiting and integration with the internal audit and advisory practices. This enabled a more integrated service to be provided to clients. I development engagement management skills (planning, budget management and billing), supervised junior staff, reviewed working papers and wrote reports on key findings for leading IT process risk and business application security engagements for major E&Y clients. These included Wesfarmers, Burswood Casino, Westralia Airports Corporation, and Department of Treasury & Finance. I played a key role in the development and maintenance of PeopleSoft and Oracle user security reporting tools covering access to sensitive functions and segregation of incompatible duties. As a result I was assigned to a key interstate client and played a pivotal role in the development of a specialized Peoplesoft security tool. I developed data analytical skills by extracting data from client ERP systems at application, reporting and database levels for subsequent analysis with Excel, Access, SQL and other E&Y analytical tools, and as a result was selected to facilitate graduate induction program and present specialist data analytical training to financial audit team.I was recognized by Divisional Director for dedicated involvement in E&Y recruitment programs, including conducting university presentations and attending recruitment events.
