Commander Surface Warfare Development Group Little Creek, Virginia

- Assigned to the staff of the U.S. Navy's "Surface Warfare Development Group" located on the Naval Amphibious Base in Little Creek, Virginia. The command mission was to develop Tactics, Doctrine and Procedures for the enhancement of U.S. Naval Surface Forces.- Acted as the staff's Leading Petty Officer, as well as Departmental Career Counselor.- Transferred tactical information from ships throughout the navy into smooth drafts, which were then used to write and publish various Naval Warfare Publications for distribution to all active surface ships in the U.S. Navy.- Coordinated the conversion of hundreds of "Harvard Graphics" briefing files into the then new Microsoft Power Point slide format.

U.S.S. Gunston Hall (Lsd-44) Homeported In Little Creek, Virginia

- Assigned to the United States Ship Gunston Hall, an amphibious surface ship with a primary mission of transporting and landing marine forces on the beach using Air-Cushioned Landing Craft.- Was the Leading Petty Officer for the Operations Intelligence division.- Oversaw the maintenance of an onboard radar system, as well as one of the weapons systems.- Qualified as Officer-Of-The-Deck (OOD) and periodically maintained the physical security of the ship while in port.- Scheduled various school assignments for ship's personnel and ensured that attendance quotas were met.- Worked directly for the Commanding Officer, on a daily basis, in collecting inputs from all ship's department heads concerning their summary of that day's operations and their intentions for the next day's operations; then drafting a daily Operational Report, which the Commanding Officer personally approved for transmission to all the units within the ship's present theater of operations.- Received consecutive perfect (4.0 on a scale of 1.0 to 4.0) performance evaluations for the period of September 1992 to November 1995.

Naval Recruiting District Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Area

- As a recruiter and, later, as a Recruiter-In-Charge; I prepared and submitted applications for enlistment on potentially qualified persons, which resulted in 10 people joining the United States Navy.- Gave numerous presentations at area elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, youth groups, and patriotic organizations.- Was appointed "Youth Programs Petty Officer" for the entire district which encompassed an area including eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, Delaware, and parts of Maryland. In this capacity, I was able to obtain 75 referrals.-Received consecutive perfect (4.0 on a scale of 1.0 to 4.0) performance evaluations for the period of December 1989 to September 1992.- Was awarded a second "Navy Achievement Medal" by the Secretary of the Navy for professional achievement in the superior performance of the aforementioned duties.

U.S.S. Independence (Cv-62) Homeported In San Diego, California

- Appointed "Leading Petty Officer" of Operational Intelligence Division aboard a naval aircraft carrier and, as such, was responsible for the administrative management of 50 Operations Specialists junior to me in rank, as well as managing the division during a major expansion to 93 personnel.- Acted as Divisional "Human Relations Counselor", "Welfare and Recreation Petty Officer", "Safety Petty Officer", and "Duty Section Leader".- Periodically acted as "Assistant Junior-Officer-Of-Deck" while ship was in various ports.- As the division's "Damage Control Petty Officer", I maintained a job completion rate of 96% or better for the "Periodic Maintenance System" within the division. These were jobs to maintain the material readiness of equipment used in fighting fires and/or combatting flooding within divisional spaces. Received a grade of "Outstanding" during an inspection by the "Commander of Naval Air Forces Atlantic".- Was in charge of maintenance and cleanliness of 32 divisional spaces, 3 of which had to be reconfigured for embarked flag staffs.- Received consecutive perfect (4.0 on a scale of 1.0 to 4.0) performance evaluations for the period of December 1987 to August 1989.

Commander Sixth Fleet Located In Gaeta, Italy

- Promoted to Operations Specialist First Class.- Coordinated and oversaw the Staff Maintenance, Material, Management (3M) System and set a record for most staff job completions in a single 3 month period.- Assisted the Divisional Leading Petty Officer in his duties.- Was placed in charge of all training and Education for the division and received a perfect grade when inspected by Commander-In-Chief U.S. Naval Forces Europe (CINCUSNAVEUR).- Was one of a few who dual-qualified as "Staff Duty Petty Officer" (SDPO) and "Assistant Staff Duty Officer" (ASDO). - Operated several different radiotelephone circuits within the flag command spaces.- Was a member of the Commander's targeting cell during operations off the coast of Lebanon, where I was awarded a "Letter Of Commendation" from Commander Sixth Fleet for establishing the initial computer data base for targeting, and maintaining the files and charts in a high state of readiness; which resulted in my being nominated for "Sailor Of The Quarter" for period of April to June 1985.- Daily prepared the "War Room" for staff briefings.- Was a member of the "Personnel Reliability Program" (PRP) and, as such, served as the "Sealed Authentication System" (SAS) and "Emergency Action Message" (EAM) assistant administrator.- Received the "Navy Unit Commendation", "Navy Expeditionary Medal" and "Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal" for operations in the vicinity of Libya.- Received consecutive perfect (4.0 on a scale of 1.0 to 4.0) performance evaluations for the period of December 1985 to May of 1987.- Was awarded the "Navy Achievement Medal" by the Secretary of the Navy for professional achievement in the superior performance of the aforementioned duties.

Commander Task Force 67 Located In Naples, Italy

- Maintained a plot of naval surface and air units in the Mediterranean theater of operations.- Typed and proofed all outgoing operational message traffic.- Initiated Qualitative General Military Training for my division and developed a formal record system for monitoring individual progress.

- Entered Active Reserve Duty at Naval Reserve Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.- April 1980 - Attended "Combat Information Watch Supervisor" School at Fleet Combat Training Center, Pacific in San Diego, California where I graduated "With Distinction" (#2 in a class of about 20 students).- Promoted to Operations Specialist Second Class.- Attended the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs where I majored in Psychology and completed 13 semester hours toward a Bachelor of Arts degree.

United States Ship Albany (Cg-10) Homeported In Gaeta, Italy

- Promoted to Operations Specialist Third Class.- Supervised the maintenance of tracking and positional data of all surface units within the ship's search area of operations.- Operated the Naval Tactical Data System (NTDS) in order to track and maintain positional data on all air units within ship's search area of operations.- Operated radiotelephone circuits used in communicating to other ships in the theater of operations.- Oversaw the mantenance of ship's nautical charts.- Prepared operational briefings for the Commanding Officer.- Appointed as Petty Officer in charge ship's honor guard (aka "Sideboys").- Prepared operational exercise presentations for the embarked staff of "Commander Sixth Fleet".- Supervised the painting and rehab of the divisional living compartment.- Acted as Surface Subsurface Surveillance Coordinator (SSSC) during NATO and Sixth Fleet exercises.- Recieved perfect marks on a performance evaluation for period: February to July 1979.
