John has worked alongside children, young people, families and the organisations designed to support them for more than 30 years.These organisations have included mainstream schools, local authorities, specialist settings, careers, social care and mental health services. He has coached and supported more than a thousand young people (many with autism) through challenging circumstances in schools and their communities.Throughout this work he has always looked to place children and young people at the centre of their own lives and learning. It has meant he has been instrumental in the design and delivery of better services, schools and alternative provision.John now champions the role that social design can play in creating better solutions for young people and their family. He sees social design as a means to challenge the underlying assumptions that affect our attempts to change our education system for the better.His designs continue to take shape as part of Square Peg’s Innovation strand and they include the ITSE Approach (A self-directed learning platform for those not accessing classroom learning), Quiet Zones (a well researched way to create opportunities for young to recharge their social batteries on schools) and Neurotrack (a powerful way to equip neurodiverse young people and their families with a range of life-changing education based strategies that can help schools to begin making collaborative adjustments quickly.)
