I am a Professor of Early American Literature and Chair of the Department of English at Kennesaw State University. I earned my PhD at the University of Rochester in 2012, after which I worked for nine years at Auburn University at Montgomery, earning tenure and promotion to associate professor in 2017 and serving as Chair from 2018-2021. I was then hired by Kennesaw, where I have served since 2021. I am a scholar of early American literature, hemispheric studies, and religious studies. Major published works include Hispanicism and Early US Literature: Spain, Mexico, Cuba, and the Origins of US National Identity (U of Alabama P, 2018) and Spain, the United States, and Transatlantic Literary Culture throughout the Nineteenth Century (Routledge, 2021). I continue to work and publish in these areas.As an administrator, I have taken pride in working on student success outcomes and supporting transparent leadership and faculty morale. For instance, at Auburn-Montgomery, I collaborated with writing faculty to establish a certificate in Professional and Technical Writing with a client-based curriculum to support improved job outcomes for English majors. At Kennesaw I have taken pride in working with colleagues on writing bylaws and P&T documents to establish clear procedures for department operations, and I look forward to working on curriculum with colleagues in the near future as well. While undertaking these initiatives I have developed a secondary research interest in supporting best pedagogical practices from the position of a department administrator, for instance publishing on how to deploy distance education programs in English departments.
