As area authority it is my responsibility to oversee the safe control of work on the Belasis site, in accordance with the site Control of Work procedure & HSG guidance. Working closely with both production & maintenance, it is my role to coordinate work flow such as maintenance tasks on plant, safely and with minimal disruption to production. Design and the safe implementation of isolation envelopes is a key part of the role - producing comprehensive EIP’s for performing authorities to work to: ensuring safe isolation for work. Adhering to LOTO systems as well as driving operational discipline & compliance i.e. LO/LC registers, control of overrides.

My role was to aid with the construction, commissioning and operating of a new production facility on site. As well as commission all associated services required for production. The project was completed on time, within budget and making record breaking production numbers from the first campaign. Following initial production, the role changed to leading the snagging process closing out all issues before formal hand over to production.

My main duties consist of working with both sterile and non-sterile continuous fermentation processes along with downstream processing methods. These coupled ensure that the maximum efficient production of high quality product is manufactured; in a safe manner. Throughout the 12-hour shift I am perpetually receiving and reporting key information to be acted upon between my colleagues & superiors. Collating all the information for a comprehensive handover at the end of the shift. Additionally, I provide accurate records & analysis of the product and process parameters in conjunction with ISO9001.

The role primarily concerned the monitoring & recording of data relayed to the DCS system from the plant, as well as acting and reacting to changes on plant during a 12-hour shift. The ensuring of consent limits given to us by the EA not being exceeded on a daily/ weekly basis. Lab analysis and recording of results as well as acting upon these figures to maintain efficient treatment & separation of effluent.
