The Foundation for Systemic Change (FSC) exists to advance justice and equality around the world, driving change that produces comprehensive, sustainable – not episodic – impact. Built on the premise that lasting change can only be achieved through a systemic approach that addresses all factors responsible for major societal challenges, FSC invests in organizations and individuals promoting positive, systemic change at all levels of society across the globe.

Directed all activity, including fundraising, related to the RFKHR’s human rights education program Speak Truth To Power (STTP). During his tenure, the STTP human rights education curriculum, with over 55 lesson plans, expanded to 15 countries now being taught to millions of students from kindergarten through law school in Africa, Asia, Europe, Central America and the United States. In 2017, STTP partnered with Discovery Education (DE) that resulted in DE integrating STTP into their existing digital platform reaching 30 million students in the U.S.

Directed all activity related to the Museum’s Committee on Conscience, whose mandate is to alert the national conscience about pending threats of genocide. Supervise advocacy efforts related to building a community of conscience that cares about responding to genocide today which include: The development of a major Museum exhibit, From Memory to Action, a state-of-the-art interactive exhibit displaying contemporary genocide, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur, the development and implementation of the Museum’s Genocide Prevention Mapping Initiative in partnership with Google Earth. The two Google initiatives, Crisis in Darfur and World is Witness are displayed on Google Earth, a three dimensional globe, downloaded by over 400 million people and the Genocide Prevention Task Force, co-chaired by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Secretary of Defense William Cohen. Brief U.S. government officials, including the President, on matters related to Darfur, Sudan and other ongoing or imminent threats of genocide or mass atrocities. Lead Museum spokesperson for issues related to contemporary genocide.

Designed and implemented PHR’s media advocacy strategy for all PHR issues: HIV/AIDS, juvenile justice, international conflicts, landmines and torture. Primary liaison with the media. Wrote op-eds and journal articles. PHR’s media spokesperson. Led health and human rights investigations to Afghanistan and Sudan. Liaised closely with UN organizations including UNHCR, UNHCHR and international NGOs in the field. Lead advocacy person on these investigations which included US legislative strategies and representation at the United Nations in New York and elsewhere and have received international and national media attention with articles and opinion pieces published in the New York Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, International Herald Tribune, Newsweek Magazine, International Herald Tribune, Le Monde and other major publications. Appeared on CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and NPR. Lead author of PHR’s report, Darfur, Assault on Survival. Presented PHR’s report on Darfur to United Nations Security Council members and to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.

Managed the design and implementation of a $6.5 million USAID-funded multi-year democracy and governance program aimed to achieve results in the following programmatic areas: strengthening the legislative process, reforming the judicial structure, conducting free and fair elections, strengthening civil society and strengthening local government. As the prime partner in a consortium with The Carter Center (TCC) and the International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES) the NDI representative’s responsibilities included overall supervision of all administrative and programmatic activity

Assisted in the development of (at the urging of the Open Society Foundation, former U.S. Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, the American Bar Association and leading human rights activists) CIJ, an international, non-profit organization established to provide support for the United Nations’ International War Crimes Tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. Supervised all activity; technical legal assistance, education, advocacy and fundraising. Oversaw office staff in D.C. and The Hague. Led the advocacy campaign for the apprehension of indicted war crimes suspects. As an advocate, CIJ worked closely with U.S. legislators and their staffs and the United Nations to build support for the Tribunals including assisting in the drafting of legislation as well as testifying before Congress. Crafted the War Crimes Prosecution Facilitation Act, which conditioned U.S. aid going to communities within the former Yugoslavia that knowingly harbored indicated war criminal suspects. Coordinated a variety of advocacy campaigns with other leading human rights organizations. Provided information about the Tribunal to the media as well as appeared on television and radio. Primary liaison with Tribunal representatives in Kigali, Rwanda; Arusha, Tanzania and The Hague, The Netherlands. Appeared frequently on television and radio and published articles in journals and major U.S. newspapers.

Directed the International Rescue Committee’s efforts to aid victims of war in the former Yugoslavia. Responsibilities included overall supervision of programs for refugees and displaced persons in Croatia. Major components involved providing assistance in shelter, social services, public health and education. Administrative functions included supervising a 30 million dollar annual operation with four offices and over 100 employees, maintaining donor relations with USAID, UNHCR, IOM, USPRM, proposal preparation, development of accounting system and establishment of the refugee resettlement office. Supervised the implementation of a 11 million dollar USAID post-conflict project assisting local NGO development. Conducted senior level representation with the media, delegations from the U.S. government and local authorities.

Supervised all pre-departure activities related to the resettlement of Ethiopian and Eritrean refugees who had been determined by U.S. immigration officials to have a well-founded fear of persecution and therefore could not safely return to their respective countries. Primary liaison with UNHCR, U.S. and Sudanese government officials concerning departure of refugees. Held extensive negotiations with Sudanese government in seeking security clearances for refugees who had been accepted for resettlement to the U.S. Supervised medical clearance of refugees including HIV testing. In conjunction with the International Organization of Migration (IOM) organized transportation of thousands refugees.

Developed and implemented BCUN programs to educate corporate America about the work of the United Nations. Coordinated activities of 100 corporate members. Acted as a liaison between corporate leaders and Ambassadors from UN member States. Supervised and participated in Ambassadorial visits to over 40 U.S. cities per year. Organized bi-lateral discussions between UN member States and Directors and Presidents of major U.S. companies. Coordinated issue oriented forums between UN delegates and U.S. Congress. Addressed city and state audiences about relevant UN issues through media.

Managed local, regional and national campaigns for candidates and issues.

Worked as a liaison with English speaking clients. Duties included interpreting, translating and preparing sales packages.
