I spent spent 30 years in the Northern Territory of Australia working mostly in remote Pintupi-Luritja communities as a teacher, teacher-linguist and for the Lutheran Church of Australia as a church worker-linguist. During this time I established the Pintupui-Luritja Literature Production Centre to produce vernacular literacy materials for use in Pintupi-Luritja region bilingual education schools. I taught Pintupi-Luritja language classes published through the Institute for Aboriginal Development (IAD) and also published "A Learners Guide to Pintupi-Luritja" (now out of print but available and many libraries). I interpreted and translated for the ABC/Caama Productions documentary on Pintupi first- contact documentary, "Bennie and the Dreamers". I was a consultant for the "Infant Failure to Thrive" project led by Dr Stephen Skov through Menzies School of Health. I wrote the training manual for the training of indigenous pastor for the Lutheran Church of Australia. Most recently I worked on the NITV Luritja production of Big Cuz cartoon along with my daughter Lavinia Napaltjarri Heffernan-Morton and we also translated for the Australian Electoral Commission producing scripts,, information booklets and publicity material for the Voice Referendum.
