My current project looks at the development of international law and its institutions from about 1800 through 1945.

Professor Of History
My research interests center on the desires of the Victorian and Edwardian urban middle classes in United States and Britain to organize their world along rational lines and how these views continue to shape our world today. My first book was on class formation and articulation in Philadelphia from 1876 to 1926 and currently I am researching the Anglo-American-Canadian influence of the formation of international law from 1800 to 1945.

Co-Chair Of The Division Of Global Cultures: History, Languages & Philosophy
Worked with Diane Wenger to create a new academic division that combined programs in history and languages (and then added Philosophy a year later).. Although this structure is new at Wilkes, it reflects the University's long commitment to studying globalization in both its historic and current contexts. This exciting new division offers majors and minors in Spanish, philosophy and history and courses in U.S., European and world history, as well Spanish, French, Mandarin and Russian language and culture. It also offers annual study abroad options that range from weeklong study tours to semesters and summers abroad.It has a new program in Public History and next year will offer an interdisciplinary program in Digital History. Additional new languages (including Mandarin!) and history concentrations are under development.
