As the BBC's veteran Political Editor for the East Midlands, John regularly broadcast either live from outside the House of Commons, Downing Street or any location in the Midlands for BBC1's Sunday Politics and BBC News. A regular pundit on the BBC’s election night programmes, John has also interviewed Prime Ministers and presidents. He’s been nominated for two Royal Television Society awards and in 2013, was a finalist in the Midlands Media Awards for TV Journalist of the Year.More recently, he has hosted events at Nottingham Playhouse with authors Alastair Campbell and Alan Johnson. John is also a lively and amusing after-dinner speaker.He is skilled at live broadcasting and bringing the very best out of interviewees and guests unused to the demands of broadcasting and news programmes. He is also available for media training.He’s also appeared on BBC Radio Four’s “Today” programme, the BBC News Channel and Five Live. Away from political journalism, John has also broadcast on BBC Radio 3 about choirs and made a celebrated film about the art of burlesque for BBC1’s "Inside Out".A former member of the Westminster-based parliamentary lobby of journalists, John became Political Editor of BBC East Midlands in 1997. He had previously worked in the BBC’s main TV newsroom in London and was a former output editor for BBCTV’s “ Northwest Tonight”, “Look East” and “ Midlands Today”.A father of three children, John lives a cricket ball’s throw from Trent Bridge in Nottingham. He may also be seen occasionally with his son at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground, although John’s first love will always be for Birmingham City.John is chair of trustees for Nottingham-based "Music for Everyone", one of the biggest independent music charities in the Midlands, which brings together singers, players and audiences in sharing the joy of music making. He is also a trustee of "Inspire", the community charity that runs Notinghamshire's libraries, archives and music services for the county's schools. He chair's Inspire's culture and music committee.
