I am currently serving as an Operations Officer for the 2nd Brigade, 11th Airborne Division. Following my role as a Platoon Leader, I was chosen by the senior brigade leadership to spearhead the development of future air mobility operations in support of major multinational training exercises. This position has significantly enhanced my expertise in project planning and high-level management, as I coordinate and equip subordinate units with the necessary resources and strategies to excel in complex, large-scale operations.

I served as the leader of a combat engineering platoon in the Army, one of three specialized Arctic Airborne Sapper platoons. Our mission is to support Airborne Infantry units in Alaska by enhancing their operational capabilities, including mobility, obstacle clearance, and survivability in one of the most extreme environments in the world: the Arctic.In addition, I held the role of Senior Engineer Advisor to the 1/501 Infantry Battalion. In this capacity, I provided strategic guidance to the battalion’s commander and staff, ensuring they have the expertise needed to effectively deploy and maximize the capabilities of their Combat Engineer teams.

My first operational role in the Army; Operations Officers assist the Battalion Staff in planning and executing a variety of organizational processes. This requires a blend of interpersonal, developmental, and technical skills that allow the Operations Officer to track and implement timelines, project schedules, and staff-level projects. The Operations Officer must keep the overall operations picture in mind as they work on highly detailed plans and timetables.

Students attending the Engineer Basic Officer Leaders Course (E-BOLC) learn the foundation of technical skills required of Engineer Officers in the US Army. Students learn project management, technical construction skills, operational planning, and continue to develop leadership skills during field problems.

Army ROTC cadets are full-time college students who also participate in the ROTC program to learn the skills needed to be effective Lieutenants in the US Army. Cadets learn a variety of skills in a leadership-based workshop designed to stress and develop character, confidence, and competence in high-stress situations.

I interned for two summers with Dr. Gross in the WFU Engineering Program and assisted in the manufacturing and testing of dozens of new variations of the Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) with the goal of producing a more efficient SOFC that could work at a lower operating temperature. This would enable future work in applying the SOFC to various other applications, such as vehicles, unmanned vehicles, and power supplementing systems for facilities.
