John is a long-time conservation professional who has worked with the Yale School of Forestry, The Nature Conservancy, the Land Trust of Napa County and the Oregon State Parks Foundation. He served as executive director of The Land Trust from 1988-2012. During that time he facilitated the acquisition of more than 50,000 acres in over 100 diverse transactions. During 2006 John completed a $25 million capital campaign, Napa Valley Wild, to acquire the 3,000 acre Wildlake Ranch which comprises the eastern backdrop of the Napa Valley. He also played a fundamental role in the voter-initiated campaign to form a Napa County Parks and Open Space District that same year. John is the recipient of a life-time achievement award from the California Council of Land Trusts and is a board member of the Pacific Crest Trail Association.
