A litigation lawyer from 1978 to 2021, John's law clients included those with disputes involving estates and losses in investments and life insurance. He still serves as a damages consultant.John trains civil litigators through the innovative Advocacy Club he founded in 2007, with many hundred active members in the Ottawa area. Thanks to Zoom, the Club's reach extends from coast to coast. John has three boot camp offerings: for lawyers, paralegals and articling students, he offers the traditional AC Boot Camp, two half-days of intensive, interactive training. Available in person in Ottawa or on Zoom anywhere, these sessions are limited to 12 participants each session. For students in law school (any school, any year), he offers the AC@LS on Zoom, a no-fee course that covers the same material but over nine weekly sessions of 90 minutes each. Also, John will custom-design the boot camp for organizations (firms, government branches, and NGOs).In 2019, John received the Carleton Medal from the CCLA (Ottawa Bar) for his lifetime contribution to the profession.For many years, John taught civil trial advocacy at uOttawa's School of Common Law, using the experiential learning technique developed in the Club. He relies on Club members as active TAs.
