Undertaking short to medium term technical assignments in agribusiness, agricultural regulatory and policy analysis, agro-enterprise development, agricultural trade, inclusive agricultural marketing systems, and climate smart agriculture. Able to do capture trips and contribute technical input to proposals. Clients include USAID and USAID contractors, IFAD, the World Bank Group (including IFC), and AGRA. Consultancies have required work on Burkina Faso, Ghana and Nigeria (AGRA MIRA Project evaluation), Tanzania (horticulture competitiveness assessment for IFC), Egypt (ERAS Project kick-off workshop & an evaluation of USAID support to multiple organizations by USAID/Egypt's EG Office under LEAP III), Kazakhstan (a competitiveness analysis of several livestock (beef, mutton/lamb) and oilseed (rapeseed, linseed, sunflower seed) value chains, Mali (a survey & analysis of cattle & sheep fattening enterprises under the Livestock for Growth Project), review and strengthening of requests for funding for climate-smart investments in value chains in Colombia, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Zambia) from ISFL, managed by the Climate Change Practice of the WBG, and an analysis of a role for trade policy and facilitation work under a newly constituted USAID Bureau for Resilience and Food Security. Also agricultural value chain analyst on a gender transformative mechanism exercise with IFAD in Burkina Faso, policy and regulatory analysis for the WBG in Ethiopia and Sudan, and analysis of opportunities for investment and upgrading of the sorghum & small ruminant value chains in Sudan. Led an evaluation of USAID/Malawi's major Feed the Future projects in Q1 of CY 2022 that focused on the effectiveness of gender and youth engagement, the uptake and scaling of innovative agricultural technologies, and the key characteristics of successful, transformative partnerships with major private sector firms and dynamic NGOs.

Provided technical support to CNFA's Business Development on numerous bids including a livestock & resilience LWA in Kenya and an RFP on Egypt's horticulture subsector. Performed capture trips on both procurements. Contributed to half a dozen other bids, including FFPr's, RFAs and RFPs. Carried out a survey of agro-input dealers in Upper Egypt under the CNFA's Food Security & Agribusiness Support (FAS) Project of USAID and provided technical input into a grant solicitation. Represented CNFA at events on youth employment and entrepreneurship, as well as the fall army worm crisis in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Undertook short- and medium-term consulting opportunities while maintaining a US base. Focus areas of expertise: agricultural policy and regulatory analysis, agricultural marketing systems development, agricultural trade analysis and promotion, value chain studies and action planning, agribusiness investment analysis and promotion, agricultural standards and food safety, and livestock economics. Carried out assignments for:a) USAID/Bureau for Food Security, a retrospective review of agricultural marketing and trade projects and activities under Feed the Future I (2010-2016)b) Deloitte, co-managed a USAID BFS workshop on Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship, held in mid May 2016, that was an input into the Global Food Security Strategy of USAID.c) IESC, contributed to an Institutional and Policy Assessment of the USAID/Tanzania ENGINE Project focused on four regions in the SAGCOT Corridor. d) CRS, worked remotely with a local DRC consultant in doing capture work for an upcoming USAID bid on food value chains and nutrition in South Kivu.e) Fintrac, as part of a five person AgCLIR team in Ghana, led work on fertilizer and agricultural machinery and contributed chapters to the AgCLIR assessment.f) IFC/WBG, Employment Group; analyzed horticulture processing and employment in Tanzania in preparation for an IFC mission to Tanzania focused on possible investment opportunities.

Lead agricultural policy and regulatory environment work, conducted special studies for field projects, contributed to the expanding economic evaluation and impact assessment practice, and participated in development of new business opportunities. Conducted field work in Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Mozambique, Senegal and Tanzania during this two-year period. Led an initial diagnostic assessment for AGRA's MIRA (Micro Reforms for Agribusiness) Project.

Participated in the Morocco country field study on Benchmarking the Business of Agriculture, a multi-donor funded follow-up to the earlier Agribusiness Indicator work in Sub-Saharan Africa, implemented from 2010 to 2013. Contributed in a major way to the Morocco country report.

Led work on agribusiness indicators in Sub-Saharan Africa, carried out by the Agriculture and Environmental Services Dept. Completed three country studies for Mozambique, Burkina Faso and Rwanda and contributed as a technical reviewer & editor of other country studies on agribusiness in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zambia. Wrote the methods paper laying out the approach used by the Agribusiness Indicator team and contributed to the cross-country synthesis report.

Technical Manager of the Agribusiness & Trade Promotion Project (ATP) from 2008 to 2010, funded by USAID/WA, with offices in Accra and Ouagadougou. Project focused on intraregional trade in staple foods (maize, millet/sorghum, onions, poultry, rice, and ruminant livestock). Also managed a series of subcontracts, including with IFDC on WACIP (2007-2010), West Africa Cotton Improvement Program, and the CARANA Corporation managed West Africa Trade Hub (WATH, from 2003 to 2007) under GBTI. Home office role included project management and technical backstopping, technical dissemination, and new business development. Served as agribusiness and agricultural marketing and policy advisor on a Monitoring and Evaluation team under the USAID funded Agricultural Policy Reform Program (APRP) from late 1996 to mid-2002 in Egypt.

Managed and carried out applied research on food security issues in Senegal and Somalia, undertaken by MSU doctoral candidates in collaboration with teams of local researchers. Field research included farm- and market-level surveys of producers and marketing agents. Led livestock marketing and policy work with two Senegalese collaborators.

Led agricultural marketing work in Sub-Saharan Africa under on a centrally funded project, SFMA. Developed and tested rapid appraisal methods for agricultural marketing and food system development studies that were carried out by a team of four analysts and numerous consultants in selected developing countries worldwide. Conducted field studies in Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, and then Zaire (DRC).
