York Region’s pioneering work on the DATA Coop has helped put York Region at the forefront of governments deriving insight from their trusted data, He and his team have won numerous awards including the 2020 Esri Presidents Cup.John’s leadership approach consists of setting a clear vision, creating a detailed road map, and building a diverse team with clear accountability and a keen commitment to deliver. His focus on collaboration and how things are done are keys to the high performing team. He has authored numerous reports including the Public Sector Analytics Playbook. In 2011, John joined York Region as Director of the GIS Program, and evolved the team to make a larger impact as corporate leaders in data and analytics. Prior to York, he spent 15 years as Esri Canada’s Ontario Region Director where he built a strong sales and delivery team who exceeded all targets. Prior to ESRI he worked in the Ontario public sector where he developed the framework for what is now Land Information Ontario – the province’s data sharing portal.
