Responsible for oil and gas midstream investments for Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets through its Macquarie Infrastructure Partners private equity fund franchise. Established the Houston office developing midstream investment theses consistent with Macquarie's infrastructure risk/return profile and executing on those investment initiatives. Board memberships included Lagoon Water Midstream (Chairman) and Leaf River Energy Center and MEP California Energy.

Mr. Howard was a founding member of Century Midstream, LLC, partnering with First Reserve which committed $500 million in equity backing toward the development of oil and gas midstream assets.

While at NiSource, Mr. Howard was responsible for the company’s upstream energy operations and assets (500,000 net acres) as wells as originating, structuring and consummating complex upstream and midstream transactions. As part of this effort, Mr. Howard devised, structured and consummated an upstream drilling venture in the Utica Shale play between NiSource and Hilcorp Energy involving over 120,000 net acres. In addition, Mr. Howard consummated a joint venture with Harvest Pipeline (Pennant Midstream, LLC) resulting in the initial deployment of $300 million of capital for the construction of midstream assets consisting of a 24 inch 55 mile wet header pipeline and a 200,000 mcf/day cryogenic processing plant through the northern part of the Utica Shale play in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Mr. Howard served as the Chairman of the Board of Pennant Midstream.

Mr. Howard was a founding member and executive officer of Bayside Resources, formed to provide comprehensive management and operational oversight over distressed energy assets and companies on behalf of capital providers. As part of that effort, Bayside was engaged by Regiment Capital Advisors, a fixed income hedge fund, to provide comprehensive executive and operations management for Foothills Resources, Inc., an energy company in bankruptcy with oil and gas producing assets in Texas, California, and Oklahoma. Mr. Howard served as President of Foothills and helped lead the efforts to stabilize production and asset operations, extricate the company from bankruptcy, sell non-strategic assets in California and Oklahoma, and reorganize the capital structure through refinancing the senior debt. Having successfully emerged from bankruptcy, Foothills continued to own and operate oil and gas assets in Texas until its recent sale to a third party operator.

Mr. Howard was a founding partner and officer of Concert Capital Resources, L.P., which joined with Morgan Stanley Private Capital Partners in 2003 to acquire Aquila Energy Capital’s distressed energy investment and loan portfolio ($500 million in outstanding investments in twenty two distinct transactions). Mr. Howard was primarily responsible for managing, restructuring and ultimately liquidating (through property sales, capital restructures, asset foreclosures, and bankruptcy workouts) over half of the transactions in the portfolio resulting in an overall IRR of 42%. In addition to his primary responsibilities, Mr. Howard was also responsible for managing the commodity hedge positions, supervising corporate governance, and acting as in-house counsel.

Mr. Howard was responsible for the origination, structuring, negotiation, documentation and consummation of structured finance and A&D transactions in the upstream and midstream sector resulting in transactions totaling more than $500 million. In 2003, following the demise of Enron, Aquila was forced to sell assets and operating divisions and Mr. Howard along with two other partners and Morgan Stanley Private Capital, structured and consummated the purchase of the distressed investment assets in the portfolio.

As Sr. Vice President of Trading, Mr. Howard had operational and P&L responsibility over the natural gas trading organization with oversight of a 50 person commercial team managing 5 Bcf/day of natural gas physical volumes, 1.2 Bcf/day of firm transportation, and 40 Bcf of storage, ultimately leading the consummation of the sale of the entire division to ONEOK following the acquisition of KN by Kinder Morgan.

Mr. Howard held increasing levels of responsibility with The Williams Companies from 1990 to 1997 in the merchant energy division ultimately running the origination and structured transaction group responsible for the company’s natural gas marketing activities in all of North America.
