John Hower has over 25 years of Product Design experience and is currently a Principal at Form & Function Product Design, Inc. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Design from San Jose State University. John has experience with the following companies, Sun Microsystems, Motorola, ROLM Telecommunications (later IBM and Siemens) and the consulting firm GVO in Palo Alto California.John has a keen interest in the relationship between Industrial Design and Mechanical Design and in maintaining product aesthetics while keeping an eye on manufacturability. Gaining manufacturing experience at ROLM Telecommunications, supporting the manufacturing line, solving line down situations and developing new products he was able to see how design affected tooling and how part design and tooling affects final plastic parts. John continued this path joining Motorola Indala, promoting Design while working with a team of engineers, manufacturing and product managers in simplifying the highest volume products the Division shipped on a daily basis. He managed the update of the leading edge Motorola Flexpass Access Control Reader redesign in 1999. In 2001 the Flexpass product line, won a Bronze IDEA award (International Design Excellence Award). At Sun Microsystems he worked with ODM partners on several new and existing products.In 2005 John incorporated Form & Function Product Design, Inc. and has served many small, medium and large companies with Design related projects. Most notable are Verifone and Netflix. Form & Function not only offers conceptual design, mechanical design and 3D solid modeling, including photoreal images of early CAD models, product artwork, prototypes, and models. Product lines ranging from gasoline pump terminals, DVRs, DVR remote control layouts to RFID access control readers.
