John Hunter is an associate in BLG’s Litigation Department who maintains a diverse practice which includes product liability, municipal and police liability, class actions and mental health law. He is interested in new and developing technology and innovation, including Autonomous Vehicles. John draws upon his experience and his prior training as a social worker to craft creative, client-centred and practical solutions to areas of legal risk. John applies his legal experience and social work training to assist him in the defence and resolution of sensitive and complex claims.John regularly defends municipalities, police and related agencies and boards with respect to a variety of liability claims including design and maintenance of roadways, occupiers’ liability, negligent investigation, malicious prosecution, excessive use of force, and damages under the Charter.In his product liability and class actions practice, John represents a variety of clients including those in the automotive and medical device industries. He has appeared before the Superior Court of Justice and Divisional Court and has acted as counsel in other venues for dispute resolution. He has conducted trials before the Small Claims Court. In his mental health practice, John regularly appears before the Ontario Review Board representing the person in charge of hospitals.John has a special interest in mentorship and contribution to the legal community. He serves as a mentor to students at BLG and regularly contributes to articles and bulletins on emerging issues in industry and the law.John joined BLG's Toronto office after summering and articling at the firm.
