A highly experienced Programme / Head of Commercial / Commercial Manager with more than 25 years of managing and troubleshooting projects for Balfour Beatty Companies both in the UK, Europe, Asia and South America. Adept at leading teams often in highly complex working environments always looking to raise standards and improve business performance. Throughout my career with Balfour Beatty and Alstom, I have developed strong commercial acumen, working on multi million projects. I have significant Experience of dealing with Network Rail including all forms of contract and have predominately worked on large Rail / Power Infrastructure Projects or Programmes of Work both in traditional arrangements or under Alliances / Frameworks. For over eight years I was the commercial lead in managing projects for Balfour Beatty Divisions - I have been fortunate to have traveled extensively throughout North/South American, Asia and Australasia, both in developing new opportunities and being actively involved in territories where things have not gone as planned. I am an excellent communicator and have strong interpersonal skills. Wherever I have worked, I have used these skills to develop effective relationships in both the UK and overseas. During my career, I have adapted my style to ensure it reflects where I have worked and the individual circumstances of each project.

A re organization resulted in me taking a Commercial Lead in the South American Territory with Projects in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. This were challenging new territories with significant language, cultural and business style barriers to address. A further refocus by Balfour Beatty Rail has led to interest in the territory being significantly scaled down and a return to core UK businesses. -
Divisional Commercial ManagerBalfour Beatty Rail Sep 2006 - Sep 2010London, GbWorking in North America – both in Canada and in the US, initially negotiating the contract and in drafting and agreeing the associated joint ventures, Canada was particularly complex and required significant work in resolving immigration, taxation, cultural diversity, clients unfamiliarity with the ethos of the contract and in dealing with issues resulting from a lack of a local partner and local knowledge. In the summer of 2008 I was also involved as part of the Senior Management Team in the National Grid Tenders for both Transmission and Distribution Lines. Working with our Partner MJ Electric in the preparation of these tenders has enabled me to more fully understand the US market and culture.I was responsible for overseeing the construction of a training facility in the Philippines to provide resources to meet our requirements for power linesman globally: this required significant interface with Philippine Government Bodies, a full understanding of immigration and the associated difficulties. I was also responsible for the management of risk, budgeting, dispute resolution and the tendering function within this business both at a strategic and project level. I have been involved in resolving disputes in Labrador, China and a lengthy dispute in Turkey. Prior to undertaking a more internationally based role I was responsible for both the supply chain estimating departments managing a team of thirty both in the UK and overseas. I was also responsible for providing leadership, adherence to company governance within these teams and the business. In managing the estimating department I worked closely with Clients in trying to ensure that estimates were compliant and represented a fair return and value for money. My responsibility also included ensuring that supplier selection undertaken by the supply chain department was robust, appropriate and in accordance with the company requirements -
Managing Quantity SurveyorBalfour Beatty Rail Sep 1998 - Aug 2006London, GbI was responsible for all commercial matters within the Signalling Group reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager. I was responsible for the recruitment and continuing development of eleven commercial staff based in Derby, Croydon, York and Manchester. As part of the Management Team I took an active part in agreeing and producing business plans, budgets, staffing levels and key business development areas. I worked closely with Clients key personnel attending the Clients framework board member for commercial. In the development of new work, I worked closely with the tendering department in making decisions on commercial issues. I worked closely with the Operations Manager and the Contracts Managers in assisting the commercial and operational teams in solving problems, analysing both financially current and forecast. This role including delivering seminars and presentations on cost control, risk management, change control and financial reporting.
