PATVJA, LLC was founded to create solutions for minimally invasive medical procedures. An innovative technology developed by our startup has been acquired by a medical device manufacturer and is currently in commercial development.+ Developing a novel sensing and pacing lead that has successfully demonstrated proof of concept in live animal testing.+ Invented and developed the first safe and robust device for minimally invasive access into the pericardial space.+ Advanced the pericardial access technology, leading to a successful sale of intellectual property assets to a medical device manufacturer. The device is currently in clinical testing.

American Medical System was a manufacturer of treatments for female urology and gynecology, later rebranded as Astora Women’s Health. The company was acquired by Endo Pharmaceuticals in 2012.+ Developed advanced generation devices for female pelvic health treatments.+ Conducted customer research and developed a new surgical delivery system for implantation of retropubic mesh slings. The product, a strategically important expansion of the AMS product portfolio, successfully launched in the US and Europe.+ Discovered a novel mechanism of action for treating female stress urinary incontinence and demonstrated high efficacy in cadaver models and non-invasive human studies. + Managed a large project team that designed and developed a percutaneous implant system for the novel incontinence treatment, and successfully completed design validation and product release for a first-in-human IDE study submission.+ Provided continuation engineering support and successfully closed all assigned CAPA files on time.+ Recognized as a technical expert and mentor for the engineering staff within the women’s health organization. Worked with high school students and college interns, teaching fundamentals of medical device engineering.

Softscope was an early stage startup company developing an assistive device for endoscopes.+ Performed comprehensive R&D work on all aspects of a complex mechanical product. Implemented significant engineering innovations that improved product reliability life by 20X, and increased human clinical efficacy from fewer than 10% to nearly 100%.+ Key contributor to successful completion of product development, leading to 510(k) approval and acquisition by Fujifilm Endoscopy.

Lifescan acquired Integ in 2001.+ Led advanced R&D projects for continuous and episodic glucose monitoring technologies, including several novel designs for disposable devices that acquired and analyzed interstitial fluid and blood from the skin at very high speeds.+ As a project manager, oversaw technically and geographically diverse teams including scientists, engineers, clinicians, and marketers in the US, Scotland, and Germany.

Imation was a stand-alone company spun-off from 3M, comprised of the Medical Imaging Systems and Data Storage divisions. + Led the development of the thermal processing subsystem for the second-generation 8300 DryView Laser Imager, substantially reducing the overall size and cost over the previous system.+ Led the development of the laser exposure module for the 8700 DryView Laser Imager, a first-of-its-kind medical film printer that did not require wet chemical processing.
