About John Blum
My story in software began long ago, when I was only 8 years old. My childhood best friend's dad was a software engineer at Cycare Systems in Dubuque, IA. At my friend's home on weekends, I remember his dad writing programs (2D animations) on his Commodore 128. I got my first Commodore 64 computer in 1983 and started writing BASIC programs. Little did I know then just how much it would change the course of my life forever. I caught the bug!For the past 25+ years, I have been a professional software engineer, writing programs, applications, systems, frameworks and libraries, primarily in Java. I have had the good fortune to apply my knowledge and skillset across many different industries, from transportation logistics to financial and technology, along with a few others. The pinnacle of my career has been to work with the Spring Team on core Spring technologies, including Spring Data, Spring Session and Spring Boot, to name but a few. While the work was rewarding, the time spent with colleagues, my friends and extended family, on interesting and challenging problems, was priceless. I have learned so much, and I know I have even more to learn.The technology landscape is fascinating, and is ever changing, rapidly. I feel very fortunate to have been part of that, to shape Spring, and more generally, Java. I am an experienced Java, Spring Framework, data and distributed systems engineer with passion for all technology. My recent interests center around AI where I have made a few contributions to the Spring AI project. You can always see what I am working @ https://github.com/jxblum. I pride myself in quality over quantity and exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. I have presented on technology at conferences and have given back to the community on StackOverflow as well as in other forums and mediums.This is not the end of my story. It's still just the beginning.
