About John Hart
I am currently working as a Staff Scientist at Geosyntec Consultants supporting the Clean Water Act Compliance group. At Geosyntec, my work focuses on water quality related projects, wastewater discharge (NPDES) permitting, Industrial Pretreatment, and other assorted Clean Water Act challenges. Additionally, I support our field teams when needed for various projects. My previous work was with Kieser & Associates, LLC, an environmental firm located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In his previous position, my main roles were to monitor for environmental compliance of various industrial wastewater clients, manage budgeting, fieldwork, and reporting for all lake, watershed, and wetland projects, conduct surface and groundwater monitoring of various nutrients/contaminants, conduct baseline wetland assessments/aquatic plant community assessments, and implemented a new surface water monitoring program for TMDL work covering multiple contaminants. I recently graduated with my Master of Science in Biology with an emphasis in aquatic sciences from Grand Valley State University. My research focused on microbial source tracking in multiple watersheds in Ottawa County identifying the primary sources of fecal contamination using ddPCR, and developing a geospatial model to provide a pathogen impairment risk assessment tool. I earned my B.S. in Environmental Science with a concentration in Environmental Health in April 2021 from Oakland University. During my time at Oakland I worked on several projects including recreational water monitoring and microbial source tracking in recreational waters with high fecal indicator bacteria with qPCR and ddPCR, quantifying harmful algal blooms using qPCR, and monitoring COVID-19 through the MDHHS wastewater monitoring program utilizing ddPCR technology. I have experience in laboratory research, project management, field sampling, public speaking, and community outreach. Experienced with qPCR, ddPCR, AQ300, AQ2, Colilert-18, ISCO 6712 Sampler, YSI multiprobe, ArcGIS products, and wet chemistry.
