My responsibilities as the Manager of RF embedded systems included:Building and running the the team that was responsible for the understanding the product's compute and control systems for very complex cellular rf transceivers and the implementation of the subsystems of the part which included system design, digital design and verification, and development of the firmware that controls the system. My team was responsible for two transceivers during this time. The first was a low cost part to be targeted a price point applications and expected for high volumes. I drove the team from definition to tapeout in the embedded portions of the product inlcuding the pre silicon verification. The part taped out an was brought to the lab for first bring up. The part was operational within minutes was able to demonstrate recieve and transmit operation within that time.My team worked on projects accross different time zone and scope, including audio designs for the cellular market which once again had first pass functional success. As the leader of the the team, it was also my responsibility manage the team for performance and build the team further to attain higher design capacity for numerous product requests that were coming in. As a team we built the team from 10 engineers to 28 engineers in the span of 3 years. All the hires became strong contributers to the programs they were or are working on.

Director - Asic And Embedded

Phoenix, Arizona Area

I led a team of wireless mixed signal design, verification, firmware developers and systems engineers. We were responsible for the design and development of transceiver integrated circuits for the global cellular marketplace. During this time the team developed the first sawless 2g/3g transceivers in the world and first LTE part in Japan. My team did the digital design and top level verification. I personally led the development of the verification plan for top level simulations including the firmware to control the system.

Mar 2011 - Jul 2013

Global Manager Of System Design, Verification, And Digital Design In Radio Products Division

Greater Chicago Area

Manager of a multi site group responsible for the system design and digital content for multimode cellular transceivers and power management devices, including their verification. Numerous new methodologies were developed in the design and verification of these complex mixed signal devices. John and his team integrated what is believed to be the first complex cellular transceiver that had an embedded processor on the same die as the RF. This architecture allowed OEM cell phone manufacturers reduce part count and simplify the communication to an API that was easy to configure for multiple products.

2003 - Apr 2009

Distinguished Member Of Technical Staff

Chicago

I managed a team of 30 engineers and directed the activities of team members in multiple sites in the development of a multimode baseband IC. The total number of staff was over 100 and coordinated the overall team from specs to tapeout. The project set new standards for functionality for a first pass baseband IC. While being the chip lead I also was the verification architect defining what the plan was and how it would be done. Phone calls on the cellular system were made on the date of the first part arrival. Phones were shipped on GSM/AMPS/IS136/Nextel and Government security systems.
