About John Jessen
While growing up, I had the privilege of moving around the world for 11 eventful years. During this exciting time, frequent moves meant adapting to new environments, languages, and cultures on the flip of a dime. Beyond teaching me flexibility, these experiences left me hungry to learn more about the world and other people. So, it was an easy decision to pursue International Relations (IR) at Virginia Tech for my first year and a half of university. At Tech, I began studying Arabic and covering the basics of IR. However, the most important lessons I learned at the university came from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets (VTCC). I would liken my experience as a Cadet to Daniel's apprenticeship under Mr. Miyagi in "The Karate Kid". While Daniel waxed Mr. Miyagi's car, I shined my shoes, and like Daniel I learned important lessons in attention to detail and accountability.My last years of university were spent at the College of William & Mary (W&M). At W&M I spent my days rigorously studying IR, Arabic, and Economics during the day and playing rugby in the evenings. My two most valuable experiences at the college were a semester abroad studying Arabic in Jordan and the opportunity to combine my love of IR with hard skills in data collection and management. Through the college’s Global Research Institute (GRI), I managed data collection on underreported Saudi and Chinese global finance. My position at GRI channeled knowledge from years of study into relevant work informing organizations from USAID to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Following my position at GRI, I joined Accenture Federal Services (AFS) as a Strategy & Consulting Analyst. Now, as S&C Associate Manager I help AFS bring its cutting edge solutions to important customers in the U.S. Government. In my current role I plan, implement, and lead "Change Management" across multiple AFS Teams. I am also proud to be promoting Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) across AFS, as the I&D Logistics Deputy for my AFS account.
