I was engaged to manage the liquidation and finalise the dissolution of CMC-Coal Marketing DAC.

I led the finance (accounting, tax, treasury and compliance) and core administration functions (IT, Facility, HR benefits & Gen Admin) for this commodity trading company. Jointly owned by Anglo American, BHP & Glencore until January 2022, this entity was set up to exclusively market thermal coal from Cerrejon (a sister company based in Colombia). The activities included the marketing, distribution and contracting of up to 34 million tonnes of coal annually to power utilities, end-users and commodity traders. The company ceased trading in 2022 following its acquisition by Glencore.The role involved a strong commercial focus through establishing the business model, overseeing the growth in revenues (in excess of $3 billion), the development of a risk management framework and implementing processes to improve business performance and monitor related exposures. I provided leadership and direction to a team of 8 employees in the back-office functions who participated in all financial aspects of the commercial deal structure. We implemented processes and controls to ensure full compliance (regulatory, statutory and audit) and the timely reporting of management and statutory reports. I looked after the payroll and benefits programs and acted as a trustee of the company pension plan. I was retained by Glencore International to manage the company wind down, including the cessation of activities, implementation of a staff redundancy program, settlement of liabilities, disposal of assets and related filings to appoint a Liquidator.

In my role I was hired to set up and run an Intangible Holding Company (IHCo.) structure for the EMEA & Asia Pac subsidiaries. This involved the set up of a software manufacturing & teleservices support site. As part of the role we consolidated the European treasury functions and implemented a cash pooling structure to improve liquidity. In addition we set up an inter-company clearing structure to simplify the reconciliation process.Post employment I acted as a non-executive Director, December 2003 – December 2007.

I was initially appointed as Accounting Manager (Ireland) and promoted to Accounting Manager (EMEA) and tasked with planning and migrating the EMEA back-office accounting functions (A/P, Banking, Franchisee & Intercompany) to HESC (Dublin). My role was responsible for building and leading the 4 teams to support these functions and meeting the service level agreements in place with the support countries.
