For those that know, I created havoc in the protection industry by insisting that the major health conditions all had the same definition. This became the standard but I had to fight each company to standardise the core illness definition. I had to threaten, cajole, plead and offer my body to get the standardisation but eventually the profession agreed that the core illnesses would all be the same definition. I became known as the “ king” of critical illness.I know that as when I rang up the senior underwriters to “discuss” such a unique situation where a heart attack with one company was defined throughout the insurers as a standard definition, I could hear the underwriter’s secretary call out “ its that ‘King John Joseph on the phone again!
