Managed the Strategic Operations Centre with oversight of all NATO operations and the coordination of strategic policy advice on NATO military operations. Coordination of crisis management responses for current and emerging crisis and central conduit for all non-NATO operational matters in SHAPE.Established the first Australian Defence Force position at SHAPE, with full NATO security access and key decision-making responsibilities across all NATO operations.Involved in the strategic planning and conduct of NATO’s military operations in Libya in 2011, and Pakistan floods in 2010.Provision of strategic advice and summaries on key NATO operations (Afghanistan focus) for Australia’s senior ADF 2 Star Military Representative to NATO and the European Union.Developed SHAPE’s new Strategic Concept to transform the organization into a more ‘comprehensive’ integrated civil/military headquarters, for delivery at the Chicago Summit in 2012.

Delivery of the Defence and Strategic Studies Course (DSSC) to Defence executive level (Colonel) and equivalent Public Service personnel, in preparation for Senior Executive Service employment, including budgetary management of over 150 guest speakers and all CDSS domestic and international travel.

Uk Multinational Headquarters, Basrah, Southeast Iraq

Direct leadership of all Australian personnel within the Multinational headquarters in Basrah, and ‘Red Card’ responsibilities for all Australian military action in southeast Iraq.Awarded the Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) for leadership in Action in Iraq.Responsible for the raising and training of all Iraqi security forces (military, police, border security and judiciary) across Iraq’s four southern provinces.

Successfully completed the DSSC which focuses at the strategic level on Australia’s military and foreign policy challenges in the Pacific and provides strategic leadership & management tools and techniques.

Puckapunyal, Victoria

Management of Army’s doctrine and publication output, operational learning capability and employment of simulation throughout Army. Leadership of a 110 person organisation with an operating budget of $3-4 million. Initiated new programs utilising innovative computer based technology to enhance the delivery of Army’s doctrine capability.Significantly increased Army’s awareness for the capacity of simulation, including the pilot of ‘low cost’ simulation options that were the first prototypes used on active service in Iraq.

Involved in the development of key Army and Joint strategy and policy documents, and represent Army in joint and interagency policy reviews and working groups.

Sydney And Canberra

Leadership and management of an Army organisation of 300 personnel across four separate locations throughout Sydney and Canberra, including significant equipment and budgetary responsibilities.Reinvigorated an organisation that was close to closure through: innovative recruiting campaigns, active leadership and mentoring; aggressive marketing and networking; to achieve the fastest growing Reserve unit in 2000/01. Introduced new recruiting methods and initiatives that were adopted as the pilot program for Army’s renewed Army Reserve recruiting efforts.

United Nations Headquarters, Dili, East Timor

Managed the military planning and direction of operations for a multinational United Nations military force of approx. 5,000 personnel, in the conduct of peacekeeping operations in East Timor.Coordinated the planning of the United Nation’s response from East Timor to Indonesia during the Bali bombing in Oct 2002.

Range of regimental artillery appointments throughout Australia.Instructional and education positions in the USA, UK and Germany, and instructional engagements at military and academic institutions across Asia Pacific and South Asia.
