John Kemp is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of LCA and Chairman of the Board of LCA Bank. Under Mr. Kemp’s leadership, Lease Corporation of America Group has underwritten over $1.6 billion of micro and small ticket transactions involving more than 101,000 leases. As a practicing attorney, Mr. Kemp has devoted his career to representing financial institutions, insurance companies and businesses. He co-founded the law firm of Kemp Klein which recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Mr. Kemp has extensive experience as a drafter of a wide variety of business agreements and as a litigator enforcing these documents.In later years Mr. Kemp’s practice migrated from trial work to negotiating contractual arrangements including mergers and acquisitions. As counsel for an early software company, Mr. Kemp created one of the first software license ever used and subsequently enforced the licensor’s proprietary interests. Subsequently, he was involved in negotiating and drafting both licensing and sales documentation of intangible assets. Mr. Kemp also created a number of tax deferral vehicles including the use of non-life reinsurance companies. As an officer and director of several privately held insurance companies, Mr. Kemp has significant lending and investment experience. Mr. Kemp is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and his Law Degree. In addition to being a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Illinois State Bar, he is also a member of the Chicago, Detroit, Oakland County and American Bar Association. He has been admitted to practice before two state Supreme Courts, two Federal Court of Appeals and two Federal District Courts.
