John Kenneth C. Gorder (Kenken), is a highly versatile trumpeter and music educator based in Austin, TX. His skill and expertise have allowed for opportunities to perform in a multitude of ensemble settings including sinfonietta, brass quintet, brass trio, orchestra, wind ensembles, and jazz bands. He enjoys collaborating with both musicians and artists across all the artistic disciplines. Kenken is an active member of the Austin-based music collective and chamber orchestra, Density512 and the Black House Music Collective, based in Los Angeles, CA. He is also a recording artist for the organization, Keep Making Music. As an educator, he maintains a large studio of approximately 50 students in Austin and the surrounding area. His students have performed at the regional, state, and national levels. He also serves on the instrumental musical faculty of the North Carolina Governor’s School West summer program. Mr. Gorder is an active clinician, where he presents and shares experiences from his multifaceted career, and offers constructive and practical advice to aspiring musicians and artists from the middle school to collegiate levels. Campuses where he presented his work include Austin area schools, Luther College, High Point University, Winston-Salem State University, and the University of Iowa.Aside from the recordings found on his website, Kenken can be heard on saxophonist Kenneth Tse’s record, The Voxman Project, on the Crystal Records label. He is also on a genre-defying album entitled Devotion by artistic genius and flutist, François Minaux. Kenken also appears on Density512’s first LP, Akousmatika. Mr. Gorder is in the process of recording his first solo/chamber music album, entitled NüToots, that will have a mid-late 2023 release. The project will include new solo and chamber works for trumpet and mixed ensembles. It will also feature a number of his closest friends!Kenken Gorder earned his master’s degree in trumpet performance studying under the tutelage of Dr. Amy Schendel at the University of Iowa (UI) and a bachelor of science degree in music education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Previous trumpet teachers include Dr. Kevin Eisensmith, Ken Brader, and Kyle Fleming.
