About John Koncki
I believe that learning is a personal endeavor and should be approached in a personalized way. This belief is based in over twenty years as a Professional Educator and Reflective Parent.I've had the opportunity to work with countless Students, Parents and Educational Professionals in some of the best public and private schools in California, South America and Asia *. My takeaway from this experience: Traditional "school" instruction prioritizes academic content and individuals must conform accordingly. Most of the school day is, therefore, spent "learning to play the game of school" (Outside-In Learning). My role as a dad to three dynamic, now adult, daughters has given me a deeper understanding of the potential for learning that each individual possesses. This learning is based in natural curiosity, talent and interest. My takeaway from this experience: When individuals are guided and supported to develop these natural gifts into strengths, they find confidence in themselves and learn to leverage them in meaningful ways by building the personal skills necessary for meeting the challenges of the 21st Century (Inside-Out Learning). I believe each person has a unique set of traits that should be identified, guided and developed into personal strengths that can be used with confidence in all aspects of their lives. I challenge the traditional mechanisms of learning - homework, grades, 1260 hours in a "school" year - in order to focus on the development and empowerment of the Individual Learner.
Listed skills include Curriculum Development, Curriculum Design, Strategic Planning, Educational Leadership, and 16 others.

I help children, adolescents and adults establish and explore personalized learning opportunities. In the end, my clients emerge with a stronger sense of their skills and how/when to apply them. Educator
Home Schooling in the 21st century is a progressive and courageous endeavor for many families. My role as Home School Teacher was to guide and support their learning while keeping them compliant with state and charter policies. While I continued to focus on building relationships with parents and students, this role had me outside of classrooms and into living rooms. This unique dynamic gave me the opportunity to draw upon my own parenting as common ground for our endeavors.
Teacher
Taught and guided students in group Math, Science and Creative / Collaborative Projects as well as one-to-one tutoring in this progressive, nurturing and thoughtful program.
Educator
Transitioned back to the U.S. with a one year contract in the Redondo Beach USD. I joined other educators in building a dynamic community of learners. I facilitated the integration of personalized learning elements (interest, curiosity, engagement, creativity, collaboration) with those of the Common Core. Results were deep dive learning experiences and enthusiastic student presentations of work.
Strategic Learning Coach
Created the effective and efficient management of academic and extracurricular responsibilities. These strategies and tools blend individual students' real lives with practical tools designed to establish balance and poise as they go about making and executing plans of action.
Educator
Managed a progressive sixth grade program. Highlights included a dynamic Humanities program utilizing US curriculum, Service Learning and a rich regional and cultural history and population to explore in context.Coached teachers in Research & Brain-Based Instructional Strategies as leader of the Curriculum Development team.Served as a School Community Liaison in a number of initiatives and capacities (Strategic Planning, Superintendent Candidate Search, etc.)
Bilingual Teacher
Taught middle school students and district parents multiple subject content and skills utilizing my own bilingualism and Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English. Strong collaboration from an outstanding teaching staff had a huge impact on this community.
Bilingual Teacher
I learned more than I taught in my first full time teaching role in a culturally-rich school and district. The students, parents and staff at Arroyo Elementary School taught me how to teach with my heart first and I've leveraged these lessons in every learning role I took on from there.
