I was tasked with helping to maintain and further develop the lab's current brain machine interface to allow for long lasting, dextrous individual finger control through a DARPA-funded project. I supported prep and execution of novel neuro-surgical techniques, signal data processing and organization, and maintenance of the physical brain machine interface and motion capture suite. My duties included:* Developing an upper limb neural prosthesis (brain machine interface) framework to allow for higher degree of freedom movement using advanced hardware, signal processing, and machine learning (Matlab)* Coded programs to automate extensive signal processing of kinematic and neural data including feature identification, classification, and extraction, and time-frequency spectral analysis (Matlab)

The goal of this project was to establish a common baseline number of CT scans that would be permissible for any given subject before radiation levels to key organs becomes hazardous, based on certain parameters. To do this, relevant patient data had to be generated from CT, MRI, and other imaging modalities, and then stored in a custom built SQL database using MSSQL. This data was then made available to radiologists and doctors via an app built into the current radiological suite at the VA hospital. My duties included:* Dosimetry: working to establish baseline number of CT scans permissible on patient, given physical characteristics (e.g. height, weight, sex) using a non-linear parametric model (Microsoft Visual C#)* Learned bioinformatics standards at VA hospital as means to access radiological records* Helped develop framework for networked user interface, integrated into a standard radiological suite, as a portal to the dosimetry information (Microsoft Visual C#, MSSQL)

This project was designed primarily to facilitate Pathogenica's start as a biotech company; to get them off the ground with a proper understanding of the technology. To do this I worked with Pathogenica on proper wetlab procedure for padlock probe capture and analysis. This was a specialization that I learned in school, and was able to teach to Pathogenica's people. To accomplish this, the data images had to be labeled and stored via a proprietary databasing tool, and then automatically retrieved and processed into segments that could then be assessed for cancerous landmarks.
