I managed the application tower for Modelling, Pricing, and Internet-based systems (15 staff) and deputised as head of the wider Development Operations function (circa-100 staff). My responsibilities included:• Development, maintenance & support across BAU, small change and projects for 25 apps including:o Two in-house pricing/portfolio management applications for Property, Marine, Aviation, Casualty, Liability etc lines with agile product dev teams (.NET devs, DBAs, automation testers & BAs)o Catastrophe modelling platforms incl. RMS, AIR’s ‘Touchstone’ & CoreLogic’s ‘RQE’.o Vendor pricing & exposure management apps (incl. DRC, EASA & Open Xposure).o Financial modelling tools incl. Towers Watson’s ‘Igloo’.• Chairing user groups & working with business application owners to prioritise & manage changes. • Representing Development Operations within the Architecture Review Group with responsibility for approving solution designs and technical standards.• Management of third-party suppliers & vendors, and management of the tower budget.• Implementing best-practice & standards, including secure coding standards, project delivery frameworks & driving SDLC processes Key Successes – • Helped draft and present successful business case to Executive Management (CFO, CUO, CRO) for strategic investment across catastrophe modelling, exposure management, pricing and data cleansing which resulted in $m’s of approved funding for a multi-year program. Hood Group is a third-party administrator of insurance products and policies. They have the pleasure of building services and systems for major insurers in the industry including Aviva, Hiscox, Santander, RSA, and Zurich. In the strategic role of Development & Testing Manager, I managed an eighteen-strong team of developers, web designers, database analysts & system testers. Whilst in this management role, I: • Grew the development team three-fold and delivered programmes of 150+ changes per year. • Implemented new source-control, project / defect management software, SDLC and training programmes. • Built a mature System Testing function of seven staff, all qualified to ISEB-standards, and drove forward Test Automation resulting in a 25% reduction in testing timescales and a substantial improvement in software quality.
