I am interested in consulting work in Biostratigraphy-Chronostratigraphy for well log correlation, seismic age calibration, and interpretation of regional chronostratigraphic relationships. My preference is work applied to Gulf of Mexico Hydrocarbon Exploration - Onshore, Shelf, or Deep GOM.

Consulting Geologist And BiostratigrapherIndependent Contractor 1999 - PresentHouston, Texas AreaI have more than 45 years of experience in providing professional geological and paleontological consulting services to the Oil and Gas industry. I have worked with both Gulf of Mexico and international exploration teams (mostly Mexico, South America, and East Asia). My specialty is the interpretation of biostratigraphic well data (in-house reports, MMS/BOEM summaries, consultant reports, etc) and the integration of these data with local and regional log and seismic studies. Since 1999 I have served as contract biostratigrapher at BP (Houston) for 11 years (Onshore and GOM Shelf) and at MaerskOil Houston for 4 1/2 years (Deep GOM). A tool that I often use is Graphic Correlation, which is an X-Y crossplot of geologic age (in mega-annums) against stratigraphic thickness (in Measured Depth). From this X-Y graph, a chronostratigraphic column ("Wheeler Diagram") may be derived for the depth interval penetrated in the well. Changes in accumulation rate over the interval penetrated become apparent. And this method is especially effective for recognizing unconformities and/or other stratigraphic discontinuities in a given well and for correlating these unconformities among wells. Ultimately, Regional Wheeler Chronostratigraphic Profiles may be created by linking these well-specific chronostrat columns as a cross-section, thus delineating unconformity bounded sediment packages regionally. I have also done extensive geologic mapping of biofacies - depositional facies.

Senior PaleontologistAmoco Production Company 1977 - 1999New Orleans And HoustonPaleontological sample and data interpretation and integration primarily in the Gulf of Mexico, Gulf Coast basins of the Republic of Mexico, Eastern Venezuela, Colombia, Guatemala, Trinidad Offshore, and Mainland China, as well as other European and Asian areas. While at Amoco, I spent approximately 150 days on location at drilling wells in the onshore and offshore Gulf of Mexico to perform biostratigraphic monitoring in order to pick casing points, coring points, and TDs. I also served 5 years as Paleontlogy Project Team Leader in New Orleans and 5 years as International Biostratigraphy Coordinator in Houston. As Coordinator I was responsible for Mexico, South America, Mainland China, and Southeast Asia. Retired from Amoco in 1999.

Consulting Geologist And PaleontologistPaleo Data, Inc. Mar 1972 - Mar 1977New OrleansMy main duty at Paleo Data was paleontological sample examination, both in our New Orleans office and at many onshore and offshore Gulf of Mexico drill sites. I spent approximately 350 days working on location at actively drilling wells. As a secondary assignment I performed geologic mapping of paleoenvironmental (biofacies) data along with other paleontologists at Paleo Data.

Paleontologist And BiostratigrapherChevron Oil Company Jun 1969 - Mar 1972New OrleansMy main duty at Chevron was the examination of paleontological samples from Gulf of Mexico drilling wells and regional control wells. A significant amount of time was also spent interpreting and mapping paleoenvironmental (biofacies) data. My initial connection with Chevron was in 1967 when I carried out a Summer Intern Project in their New Orleans Office. In this work I had the good fortune to receive the guidance of and enjoy the company of C. Wylie Poag (the Batman). Working with Dr. Poag, I received a solid grounding in the study of planktonic foraminifera and a thorough review of the ever-enlivening adventures of Yellow Dog Dingo and the other classic characters of Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories.
