Surveys ship’s to ensure compliance with OSHA, NAVSEA, FEMA, and PSNS&IMF ship safety requirements. Leads daily inspections consisting of Project Managers, Ship’s Force Supervision, Contractor Supervision, and Navy Regional Fire and Emergency Services (NRF&ES) to ensure compliance. Oversees all High Risk Evolutions which include: Docking, Undocking, Work Involving Diving Operations, Transferring Fuel Oil, Oxygen loading, Transferring Refrigerant Gas (FREON), and Ammunition Movements. In-depth knowledge of the construction, operation, maintenance, and use of shipboard damage control systems (Trim, Drain, Hydraulics, Fire Main, Main Drain, Announcing, Alarms, Lighting, etc…) and ship and shore-based damage control practices. Periodically required to train shore-based firefighters in shipboard techniques while ensuring SF is trained on casualty control using FEMA’s National Incident Management System. Comprehensive knowledge of tag outs, work authorization, operational specifications, and technical work documents utilizing ship drawings and executing technical information contained in written instructions.
