  John Leonhardt was named Director, Chief Engineer for the F-35 Sustainment Support market segment in March of 2014. John leads all aspects of the technical team’s performance across a broad set of capabilities that support the F-35 program including Pilot and Maintainer Training Systems, Support Equipment and Autonomic Logistics Information System (ALIS). In this role, John’s focus is on the execution of development efforts and transition of these solutions into fielded operational capabilities. He will provide technical leadership for a multi-disciplined 700-plus engineering staff. Prior to this position, he held the role of Director, Chief Engineer for IDT working on C4ISR systems, IRCM and DE Lasers, Advanced Sensors, Lighter than Air Technologies, and Ship Controls, Weapons, and Missile Launchers. His responsibilities include all aspects of the engineering lifecycle including systems architecture development, requirements definition, software development, integration and test and production support. He supports the development of strategies to capture new business and grow the business and improve overall competitiveness through disciplined engineering product development and independent and industry collaborative research and development projects. Throughout his 25 years’ experience with Lockheed Martin, he has served in a variety of increasingly responsible positions including Sr. Department manager for a 300 person Integration and Test Department, Director of Enterprise Computing managing Enterprise IT resources, and a number of Engineering Product Management positions for real time C4ISR Systems onboard Air, Surface and Shore platforms for DOD, DHS, and commercial customers. He maintains a proven track record developing short and long term strategies, managing product development plans, and overseeing multiple complex engineering programs using advanced design methods and proven system engineering models to achieve profitable results.
